This reminds me of when I was growing up my mother forbade my brother and I from saying that ‘so-and-so is a pain in the neck’ because she said that it would manifest a pain in the neck! ;) I think that words are part of the human condition. They are powerful and can definitely [...]

Hi Nicole, Yes, this is area of bodywork that fascinates me as well. I honestly don’t know if there is any hard and fast rules to the consistency of where or how people store emotional tension in the body. I’ve seen some pretty far out things in my time in practice that I never could [...]

Hi Theresa, we could be talking about pain that has been diagnosed as Fibromyalgia or Chronic Myofascial Pain as the symptoms of both of these can sometimes be related to unresolved emotional issues. Many times clients come to me with pain or restriction issues that they have seen many doctors, physical therapists or massage and [...]

I was wondering if maybe we could start a dialog here about working with clients who are experiencing the effects of emotional cysts in muscular tissue. I know how I work with these clients but am interested in learning how others approach this work.

Is an emotional cyst like a physical blockage from emotional trauma?
Michele you might want to move this into a forum topic so it stays visible. Updates tend to fall off the radar pretty quickly and then can’t be found again. I know a handful of people who may have input on this, but none of them are out here (yet!)
Yes Nicole that is exactly what I meant. As you know, we often store emotions in the tissues. The words we use to describe bad things that happen to us such as ”Oh, I felt like I was kicked in the stomach. Or the news just broke my heart. Or that guy is such a pain in the neck.” These are often exactly where we have physical restrictions that directly result from these events.
I’m curious to know where people store certain kinds of emotions in the body. Are people predisposed to certain areas? My shiatsu teacher said that people tend to store secrets under their shoulder blades, for example.
Each organ is associated with a positive and negative emotion, and when we work on the Hara (abdomenal massage) we can help release emotions that the client has been holding on to, sometimes for years.
Hey Nicole Suzanne suggested I more this to the forum so I will continue our discussion there.

I met with a friend tonight who owns a gorgeous little Aromathery Company called Kokokahn. She & I were brainstorming & decided we wanted to do a class together with an focus on Women and Breast Health. So obviously breast exams, someone from American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen group, lymphatic drainage techniques, detox essential oils etc. But I want a fun & enjoyable ”hook” like sequinned bras or something. Any ideas what other health modalities & fun activities we could include?
